Kernel Sources in Red Hat 7.2

Hello All,

I posted this question in the newbie forum, but maybe that was the wrong place for it.

I am trying to recompile the kernel (2.4.9-31) to allow support for IPtables. However, I cannot find the kernel sources. I have checked in the /usr/src directory, but the only directory that I can find is one called redhat. Inside that directory are others (BUILD, RPMS, SRPMS, SOURCES, and SPECS) none of those directories contain the kernel source files.

Is there something that I am missing? I can download a kernel, compile it, install it without any problem, but I cannot find the sources that are installed with my distribution. I want to recompile my original kernel without having to download another one.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I just installed RH 7.2 myself. I had to specifically select the Kernel source package in the installer to get the sources on my system.

Try looking on your install CD for the kernel-source package. I think it may be on the second CD. There seems to be a set of config files (in the configs directory I think) that you can use to recreate the kernels available on the install CDs.

Hope this helps.

You want to do something like this "rpm -ivh kernel-source-2.4.7-10.rpm"

That sounds logical. I am not sure if I specified the kernel sources to be installed. When I queried rpm the package did not show up.

Thanks for the advice.
