I heard that RedHat will run many processes in background. I have RH8 and I feel that it is slower than when I installed Debian, Mandrake,..
How to stop those nasty (unnecessary) processes.
I am using WindowMaker and not Gnome or Kde.

thanks for reading

Well I am not completely sure about WindowMaker, where ever your runlevel editer is, you do it in there. You can run top and kill each process by its id number in CLI, but that is not perminet.

Ok. Go into your menu and find system services. Turn off anything you don't need. It's as simple as that.

If you can tell us how you configured your system (when installing) that might help us giving you a hand.

Also, please provide systems specs (CPU, memory).

I measn, if you ar erunning thsi on a laptop, for personal use, there is little point in running sshd, thhpd, ftpd, sambe.... all of which would be up and running if you'd have done a server installation....

Can you provide some details?

Tom
