RMS encourages people who are using GNU/Linux to use the Debian Distrobution. It has ethical backing. Where is gentoo at and how do they see/treat Free Software?
Yeah, but a swirl's kick doesn't compare to a cow's kick, now does it?
Gentoo, being a source distro, has a big thing for free software of course. But it doesn't make the kind of distinction that Debian does between free/non-free categories. But the distinction is kind of theoretical anyway. Apt-get installs the non-free software just like emerge does for Gentoo. In the end you can run the same programs on Debian as on Gentoo. Maybe Gentoo is a bit more pragmatic about it than Debian.

Yeah, I agree... I don't necessarily agree with everything RMS says either, but without him we would have no Linux OS.
Though, I suppose this is not much different from those who whine incessantly about Bill Gates, while continuing to use Windows...
get over it, he's an embarassing egomaniac. he's just pissed because they couldn't get the turd kernel off the ground. now he wants to slap GNU on everything even though only about 25 % of any distro is GNU.org software.

You don't understand, "Linux" is NOT the operating system. With your amount of helpful posts, I'd think you'd at least be able to unstand this.
The GNU project was established well before the Linux kernel , GNU was set out to make a free UNIX-like OS. And they did. They created nearly EVERY basic peice of software needed in a workable OS except for the Kernel. The kernel was the last of peice of software they needed to create but before they had a stable, working kernel Linus came around and decided that the LINUX kernel would be best placed under the GPL and with that, the GNU project was complete (in the sense of freedom, they are still working on there own kernel (HURD)).
So you see, by calling your OS "Linux" your contradicting yourself, your just on the other side of the tracks.
If you say GNU makes up only 20% of the OS then what the hell are you calling it "Linux" for? Linux (technically speaking) is a smaller % then GNU.
They (FSF) ask that you call it GNU/Linux not for the credit, but becuase it's the correct name of the OPERATING SYSTEM.
Ans as for RMS, to each there own, but I see him as a very important person and a very special one at that. He is my role model and offers much motivation/inspiration.
good points, in all truth, i posted the "crazy dick stallman' crack just to see to what extent people would go to defend him and his somewhat(depends on who you talk to) views. sorry to jerk your chains people, the 'ethical' question hasn't popped up for a while(unless i missed it) and i thought i could get peoples juices flowing.
