Gentoo 2006.0 trashes LVM partitions

It warned me it didn't recognize the LVM partitions, but I was installing to a pre-existing non-LVM partition and it (re)wrote the HDD's entire partition table anyway! All it had to do is change the filesystem type number and format! Don't understand why it futzed with the other partiion info at all.

Anyway, decided I really didn't need LVM for my internal/boot HDD, just for my external firewire hard disk daisychain (which Windows Server 2003 LDM can't handle). So might give Gentoo another go. I do like the LiveCD installation method in general... seemed pretty slick otherwise.
