Distro... RH or MDK?

self explanatory title... I got a toshiba satellite P30.

I'm experimenting with a few distros, and I'm wondering if Redhat 9 is worth to see, switching from mandrake 10.1 ...

or should I go Fedora? which one will give me experience? which one will require less "extreme linux config voodoo" ?

If you got linux distros to advertise, I'm up for it I just want to see other distros and linux flavours

thanks

redhat 9 is outdated, no longer supported, if you want to go the redhat route your looking at either fedora core or redhat enterprise which costs £££, or possibly one of the redhat enterprise clones centos, white box enterprise.

Other possibilitities are knoppix or suse.

Things like slackware, debain, gentoo are only good if your up for editing a few config files

Okaaaaay, so why does your profile info indicate Slack as one of your distros?

If you like mandrake then you'll probably like FC, they are similar in that there are gui's to configure most things and the software tries to set up and configure your hardware automatically. Though I *think* that FC doesn't come with mp3 support, nor will it play DVD's out of the box, there are some third party libs and apps to install to overcome this though.

The reason for that is I *did* download and test slackware (not what I expected), and updated my profile to show that I had slackware while inside slack. then reinstalled Mandrake... since then I got busy and didn't take the time to reupdate it...

So yes, it was one of my distro...

I'll be looking forward to Fedora.

Ah, ok.

One of the easiest to use distros I've run across is Mepis. Very good auto detection, easy to install, is a LveCD so you can check it out before installing, and Debian based for easy package management. May be worth looking in to.

Like anything else 'linux distro" related, that subjective. Personally I don't like RPM distros, but then again you might.
