I was thinking of buying SUSE 9 because of the availability of the WineRack add-in -- considerably cheaper than CrossOver Office and CrossOver Plugin, even bundled. But I get a 404 error on SUSE's site, and no separate sources for it stateside (though I can find at Amazon.uk).
I ordered the wine rack at the end of febuary with amazon.com. Still waiting... (lol, thats probably just a way of saying that its out of stock indeffenetly).
Anyhow, I agree, it looked like a bargain. And it came out in decemeber! Strange it was only aviable for a couple months or so.

Amazon e-mailed me after the order sat forever and said they will not be getting the item it so they canceled the order. Screwed by stupid licensing issues yet again, it almost reminds me of my Windows days. Sad...

I found the Wine Rack on Amazon the same way, through a link, and they canceled my order. Considering how the Wine Rack is no longer a searchable term at SuSE, I would suspect they will do the same if you order it. If anyone finds out differently please let us know..
Suse themselves emailed me after I inquired of them where the wine rack was. They responded saying "We're sorry, but the suse wine rack is out of stock and will not be avaible any more" or something to that effect. Anyhow, if you follow the link above it just takes you to the store which basically tells you the item was not found.
I was wondering why they would have stopped selling such a great item. Think they just ran out of licences?

Wine Rack available here!
Hi all!
I'm a linux newbie with SuSE 9.0 installed - which I'm very happy with!
I found this forum because I've been looking for the same thing as you - the Wine Rack CD!
LittleAngel, that's awesome! I've been checking ebay but haven't had success finding the wine rack. It must not scan global sales. I actually live in alaska. I have an idea! It looks like you live in the UK, is that correct? If so, could I purchase the wine rack, and have it sent to your location? And then have you ship it internationally to me? I will pay you for it of course. PM me if you are interested...

Wine Rack version 2 out in summer!
I've just returned from the Linux Users and Developers Expo 2004, where I talked to the Novell/SuSE team at length. They were demonstrating the new server and also the SuSE Professional 9.1 desktop. It looks very smooth and they have made some changes on how Open Office 1.1.1 interacts with the kernel (2.6) so that it starts up much faster. The new version of Open Office also seems to handle compatability with Windows Word/Spreadsheet much better.
I spoke to Raj (sorry, can't remember his second name!), who incidentally is the person who thought of the name Wine Rack, and he explained that SuSE initially only made a limited number of the Wine Rack CD. By the time the magazines had picked up on the release, they were already nearing the end of their supply. The demand by far outweighted the available supply.
SuSE 9.1 will be in the shops in about 2 to 3 weeks. The SuSE team is now testing Wine Rack version 2 and a provisional release date has been set for this summer. Raj assured me that he'll convey the interest for the CD to the correct department.
DrD, I did send you an email, but I'm not sure if you received it. Please email me if you still want me to order the first CD for you. PM wouldn't work - I got a "no permission" message when I tried.
Sounds like some cool work is being done. I didn't realize they were planning on a wine rack 2. I'd still like a copy of the original however, so sure!
I actually haven't used my registered email address for quiet some time. I tried to view your profile and email you just now but it wouldn't let me. Just email my normal address: danf<at>gci.net. (The <at> is for spam protection) Thanks a bunch in advance!
