windows share available to other applications

I am using gnome in centos 5.3.

i could connect to windows share using "connect to server" but the mounted filesystem is accessible by file browser only.

how could we make it accessible by firefox, thunderbird, etc. for example, i could not save a file to mounted win shares in thunderbird.

i am using root but i do not want to use mount.

pls kindly advise.

You should mount your Windows share using Samba. Take a look at the command "smbmount".

Edit: I just see that you don't want to use mount...good luck so
