Unable to logout, restart and shutdown in Kubuntu14.04.

Hello all.

I have been having this problem for a week now. It worked a few times but most of the time I had to "sudo rm .kde/share/config/ksmseverrc" and "sudo restart lightdm" (found answer on google). I don't need to do this everytime I have this issue. How can I fix this? Thanks.

You might want to try going into 'terminal" via Alt F2,
and run :

Quote:

sudo apt update

then :

Quote:

sudo apt-get upgrade

and finally :

Quote:

sudo reboot

That will update your system, and reboot.

One of my machines was acting like that, and I would just use the terminal to shutdown or reboot. Updating seemed to fix things.
