Screen resolution in Ubuntu 10.04 under Windows Virtual PC
Hi there,
I'm trying to get Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit running under Windows Virtual PC 2007 (host is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) on a HP EliteBook 8740w laptop.
Ubuntu installed and runs fine. I had to do a little trick I found online to get my mouse scrolling to work, and also sound doesn't work but I don't really need it.
My main issue is that I cannot get my screen resolution above 800x600, making it a tiny box on my screen that I have to do a lot of scrolling around in. Even 1024x768 would be better.
Virtual PC emulates an old S3 86c764/765 [Trio32/64/64V+] card. I have the current drivers installed, I think (apt get says latest package is installed). Virtual PC's card supports 1200+ resolution.
I have tried to use xrandr to add the option for 1024x768 and when I try to change my resolution to the new mode, I get an error that I'm trying to exceed the max resolution (800x600).
I tried using Xorg -configure and X -configure and both give me an error that "Server is already active for display 0" - this is in rescue mode on the LiveCD. When I try to boot into rescue mode without the CD the screen is too garbled and I can't see anything.
Can someone help, this is driving me nuts!! :-)
