I just upgraded my Debian Testing Kernel to 2.6.24 and now find the brightness is changing on it's own. Has anyone else had this problem ? Could it be a bug ?
Yes, here on my system..I have just installed Mandriva 2008.0 that uses
KDE 3.5.7 but my(LCD) monitor is generally too bright..I right click the desktop and then display to set the gamma for the correct brightness..I usually have to type in the root password and it seems fine for the rest of the session but if I reboot, the brightness will get too bright again..This is the only distro this happens to..Even Mandriva 2007 is fine as well as
suse, kubuntu and others..It does not seem to save the settings..
I don't know if this is your exact problem or not but I thought I would throw this out..
Goodluck,
jolphil
No, nto the same probelm
I dim my display to just under half, and I can be reading a page and in a few minutes the brightness changes back to 75% or so for no apparent reason. It seems to happen when I'm not using the keyboard.
I often overlook the simple problems first myself. So how about checking the cables on both ends. This problem usually creates colour issues, however different problems for different monitors.
You can also try a different display if you have one.
Other than that, be sure you are using the correct frequency. LCD's generally are always 60Hz.
hehe Ok, then. Perhaps you had the same issue as I had with my dell lappy.
I thought it was the back light... but was something different.
So its most likely one of two things. Either a bad back-light and/or connection or the GPU connection to the mobo. Does it happen much when you move the lid of your laptop? or moveing itin general? I thought it was the back light with my dell. I disassembled the lid many many times ... Was even about to order a new back light lamp. But what it actually was the Graphics board inside was loose from the main board on a more through disassembly
.
So my friend, if you are savvy with disassembling things, Taker' all apart, and make sure all the connections are tight and snug. But I dont advise doing this with a lappy unless you have a core electronics understanding with taking crap apart "ribbon wafers" (those plastic sheets with wiring in them... see I should not have even been doing it cauz I doint know what they are called) can be tricky and be easially damaged. Proceed with caution, and at your own risk. Otherwise take it into a technician.
I would make a guess that this would happen with any installed OS.
Just ask if you have any other questions. Perhaps I should elaborate more in my blog on this issue hmm....
Well, I know for a fact it's not hardware. I still have 2.6.22 installed and when I boot with the older kernel the problem is not there. I'm certain now that it's a bug and I should report it.
