Plasmashell Does not respond to keyboard or clicks, but can move mouse

I recently reinstalled Fedora 23 onto an SSD as my old hard drive was getting a little long in the tooth. I keep getting into a situation where I can move the mouse around, but I can't click on anything. If I go to another virtual terminal, when I come back the screen is completely black.

If I run top in one of the virtual terminals I get that plasmashell is using 94% of the CPU.

Thing is....if I kill plasmashell in another VT, how do I push it back to VT 1 where X is running?

Other things that might be of interest:
AMD Processor with 8 cores
24GB RAM
Everything was fine with old hard drive

Anything I can do to test if it's something weird with nVidia? I think it's strange that I see the Fedora word bubble when Plymouth was running when previously that never showed up with nVidia - I was always stuck with a blue/white line along the bottom of the screen.

Here's the log:

Looking at what I posted from Xorg.0.log - should I be concerned that this line is there:

"[ 31.647] (II) input device 'UVC Camera (046d:0825)', /dev/input/event13 is tagged by udev as: Keyboard
[ 31.647] (II) input device 'UVC Camera (046d:0825)', /dev/input/event13 is a keyboard"

It's saying my webcam is a Keyboard?

It's also slightly concerning that my keyboard gets two IDs:

Is that because I switched in/out with my KVM during boot? Is this likely to cause instability?

Other thoughts I'm having (but cant' test at the moment):
-could the issue be related to USB ports? Do I need to maybe move where the KVM is plugged in?
-does it matter if VMs are running? Because I'm passing through USB to the libvirt VMs
-The KDE freeze does not appear to be time-bound. Left the computer running overnight and it was OK 7 hours later.
-Next time the GUI freezes I'll switch out to another VT and save the Xorg.0.log at that time as well as dmesg
-looking in the old hard drive to see what's in the /etc/Xorg confs.

I've seen this on mutliple OS's on multiple machines (none using KVM) running different cpu vendors, different gpu vendors, different types of drives, different numbers of monitors, different resolutions. The ONLY thing that the machines had in common is KDE. However, I haven't seen it in Fedora since plasma 5.5.x hit. I still see it REGULARLY on Debian with plasma 5.4.x. My own belief is that KDE simply is still unstable and freezes up at random times for no particular reason. I know it's not hardware because I've actually thrown other desktops on those systems and can use them for days without issue, but upon going back to KDE, within a day or 2, get a "freeze".

There's certainly the possibility that when I installed onto the SSD that the Kernel, Xorg, or something else updated to a version that's slightly broken with KDE. When this has happened to me in the past, I've usually been able to bring up Yakuake and kill and restart plasmashell. This is what makes me think it might be something else. Plus you say you haven't seen it since 5.5. I'll keep investigating some of my theories (including posting an Xorg.0.log from the moment of a freeze). And if I get nowhere, I'll investigate other desktop environments to see if I have problems in Gnome or XFCE.

Since in this case I'm unable to bring up Yakuake - do you happen to know how I could send a command to restart plasmashell from within another VT?

Since I use SDDM, I kill sddm and that restarts SDDM & plasma shell.

Ah, I'll try that next time. Do your programs stay running when you do that? or does it effectively log you out?

Effectively logs you out. Unfortunate, but works every time for me.

OK. It's not ideal, but faster than a reboot. If/when it happens tonight I'll post logs in case there's something in there that's out of the ordinary.

OK, finally got some time in front of the computer:

Code:
$ uptime
 19:59:26 up 19:27, 2 users, load average: 0.83, 0.86, 0.87
So nearly 24 hours without it hanging. It appears that something has to cause the desktop to freeze up. Whether I'm in the right ballpark to blame the KVM (not KVM the virtualization, but to share my mouse/keyboard) or completely wrong, it appears there's something I have to do to trigger plasma to freeze up.

Just in case this was causing any issues, I did change my lock screen from Fedora 22 (which I imagine was not installed--but it picked up on my old settings) to Fedora 23. Yesterday at least one of the times, I hadn't been using the computer and so maybe it tried to access a lock screen that wasn't installed.

Ran a VM and interacted with it. Did not freeze up plasma shell.

It was fine until I used the KVM to switch over to the other computer. Then it froze up the display. So perhaps it's just coincidence, but it seems to me like that's probably the culprit. Interestingly, this time plasmashell was not using a ridiculous CPU amount.

Killing SDDM allowed me to log back in, but plasma doesn't work with activities as well in this mode. At least it's something.

Here's the Xorg.0.log (I cut off part of the beginning because of character limits in LQ.org):

I thought that rebooting and keeping the KVM on Linux would prevent this, but no - it's still detected twice:

Code:
[ 31.739] (II) input device 'Chicony USB keyboard', /dev/input/event3 is tagged by udev as: Keyboard
[ 31.739] (II) input device 'Chicony USB keyboard', /dev/input/event3 is a keyboard
[ 31.740] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Chicony USB keyboard (/dev/input/event4)
[ 31.740] (**) Chicony USB keyboard: Applying InputClass "evdev keyboard catchall"
[ 31.740] (**) Chicony USB keyboard: Applying InputClass "libinput keyboard catchall"
[ 31.740] (**) Chicony USB keyboard: Applying InputClass "system-keyboard"
[ 31.740] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Chicony USB keyboard'
[ 31.740] (**) Chicony USB keyboard: always reports core events
[ 31.741] (**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/event4"
[ 31.741] (**) Option "_source" "server/udev"
[ 31.742] (II) input device 'Chicony USB keyboard', /dev/input/event4 is tagged by udev as: Keyboard
[ 31.742] (II) input device 'Chicony USB keyboard', /dev/input/event4 is a keyboard
[ 31.756] (**) Option "config_info" "udev:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:16.2/usb5/5-4/5-4.4/5-4.4:1.1/0003:04F2:0603.0003/input/input7/event4"
[ 31.756] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Chicony USB keyboard" (type: KEYBOARD, id 11)
[ 31.756] (**) Option "xkb_layout" "us"
[ 31.757] (II) input device 'Chicony USB keyboard', /dev/input/event4 is tagged by udev as: Keyboard
[ 31.757] (II) input device 'Chicony USB keyboard', /dev/input/event4 is a keyboard
The next thing I'm going to try is not running any VMs tomorrow and see if it still has any crash issues. I wonder if KVM (the VM tech) is trying to use the same USB ports as KVM (the keyboard sharing hardware).
