I use Mint 17.2 64b on Acer E1-510P, 8GBram.
Win7-ultimate installed, opened and ran in VirtualBox. I used IE-8 to connect to internet sites. That was two days ago.
Today, virtual machine failed to open, threw the following error:
"Trying to open a VM config '/home/rafa/VirtualBox_VMs/VM-Win7HP64bit/VM-Win7HP64bit.vbox' which has the same UUID as an existing virtual machine."
I run <ps -A> to see running processes and it shows only:
1710 ? 00:00:00 iprt-VBoxWQueue
1711 ? 00:00:00 iprt-VBoxTscThr
When I enter <sudo kill -9 1710 1711> nothing happens and the processes are still listed in a new <ps -A> query.
Where is the vbox with the same UUID running? How can I turn it off to start a new vbox session?
---------------
Another result:
When I click to open my vm from /usr/lib/virtualbox/VMMR0.r0, the machine is reported as "inaccessible," and I get the following error:
Runtime error opening '/home/rafa/VirtualBox VMs/VM-Win7HP64bit/VM-Win7HP64bit.vbox' for reading: -102(File not found.).
/home/vbox/vbox-5.1.2/src/VBox/Main/src-server/MachineImpl.cpp[745] (nsresult Machine::i_registeredInit()).
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
MachineWrap
Interface:
IMachine {b2547866-a0a1-4391-8b86-6952d82efaa0}
this error seems unrelated to the first error reported above concerning duplicate machines?

Thank you, Jefro. No, I did not clone nor remove a machine. I simply 'turned off' the virtual machine one day and then the next time I wanted it, it was inaccessible as the error messages state.
I am studying the reference you sent to me. There appears the possibility of, at least, a workaround. I am not finished with grasping that solution as yet.
Did you mean that I should delete replies as they come in order to keep a high priority for answers? Should I delete your reply and this reply?
Thanks again to you and to this list.
LQ has a thing called zero reply. When someone posts a question it starts off as a zero reply. The software that runs the web page keeps zero reply questions on most users page so that more people may tend to view it. I just suggested that on your initial post, you may wish to consider using an edit to the original question to keep it as a zero post.
I am able to 'edit' my post; but I am unable to find a way to 'delete' the post. Eventhough the 'edit' button has a sub-header that says 'edit/delete,' I cannot find the 'delete' command.
When I hover over the LQ 'edit' button a sub-heading comes up saying 'edit/delete;' but when I click on the button I am only able to edit, and I cannot locate the 'delete' command. Any help for this?
Hi Jefro,
If there is a way to close the thread without marking it solved, then that is what i would do. I am going to simply delete the virtual machine and reinstall it at a later date. I will watch and be more careful about the "buttons" I press when working within the VM! thank you.

Rep:
theres a way to import/export vdi files for virtual box, i've never done it though. you may want to look into this so that you can reinstall VB and not have to reinstall the guest OS.
Another idea is to post your question on the virtual box forums. see below.
