My desktop is literally gone


Ok so I am a complete idiot and decided to remove xfce-panel in ubuntu, and when I did nothing happended but then when I went to turn my computer back on my desktop was completely gone all i had was a big blue background with nothing on it, no icons folders time or anything. Does anyone know how to fix this.

How exactly did you remove it?

In the ubuntu terminal I typed

Apt-get remove xfce4-panel

And that did it

It would

Try sudo apt-get install xfce4-panel

Ok but i dont have access to my terminal when i turn my computer on it the ubuntu bar loads and then it is a plain blue screen and you cant do anything

Try this. Press Ctrl+Alt+F2 (three buttons together). You should get to the console window, where you can log in without GUI and type the commands.

thanks a ton that worked some what I know have access to my file but dont have any icons or stuff but now at least I can back every thing up, and then just install a new ubuntu os

See my post @#4.

Just reinstall xfce4-panel and you should be good to go (if that's all you uninstalled).

You may need to logout/login again or even reboot for the changes to take effect.
At least you have rescued your files.

ok the installed xfce4-panel again and that gave me access to my files, then I still couldnt get it to work then i did

apt-get install xfc4

then i got everything back
