macromedia flashplayer won´t work in Mozilla Firefox-2 Fedora Core 6
I´ve installed the plug-in with the browser pop-up, downloaded it from Adobe, manually installed it. And I´ve uninstalled then reinstalled with all the above methods. I never get error messages but it never seems to take. ICQ chat has been my test page & it has never worked. Occasionally Linuxmail shows me the pop-up & sometimes it seems to work. I´ve used the latest versions of EVERYTHING to no avail. Anyone else had this problem?
Launch firefox from a console to get error messages
Good Evening,
Have you tried to launch firefox from a console ?
I have the same problem, so I tried to get error messages by launching firefox in the console and surf a website that required flashplayer.
In a console, just type:
Code:
# cd /path/to/firefox
# ./firefox
And here's the message I get:
Code:
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /opt/firefox2/plugins/libflashplayer.so
[/opt/firefox2/plugins/libflashplayer.so: can't restore the prot segment after reloc: permission
denied].
I don't get it..,
- When I look at aboutlugins, I do not get any result even though the files are in their right place.
- I used the mozilla official executable to install my firefox 2 in /opt/firefox2
- I do not have flash installed as an rpm
- I do have firefox 1.5 installed as an rpm, I want to keep it if it is possible, for CSS/HTML testing.
If someone understands something, I will be pleased to hear about it.
Thank you in advance,
Are you using the 64 bit version of firefox? [HELP->About Firefox] If so download and install nspluginwrapper. This allow the use of 32 bit plugins(flash) with 64 bit firefox.
Hello,
It may seem odd, but I don't know for sure. I don't think so but... My about:buildconfig doesn't mention it. On the about: page my build identifier is "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/2006101022 Firefox/2.0".
Hello,
I don't think so, but I'm not 100% sure. My build identifier looks like this "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/2006101022 Firefox/2.0".
All the Best,
Evren K.
P.S: I'm really sorry for this double post. It's a stupid mistake, I thought my previous message didn't work. Is there a way to delete this post ?

Hello !
Yeeesss ! Thank you very much ! It is indeed a file permission thing but I couldn't fix it until I changed the SELinux politics to "permissive". It is not ideal, but now it works.
