This is a used motherboard supposed checked out. I got it loaded and running. I'm trying to get on board sound working. I checked the speakers on my other computer.
Are they any additional programs I need to install. I have a used sound card I'm going to try if it's not missing a program. Fedora used to have a program to set values for sound. Does linux have a program like this.

It would help to know that kind of sound card is in the machine. In my experience, sound usually works out-of-the-box with Mint.

It always worked in my other asus motherboards. I downloaded a motherboard manual as it had two jumpers in the board they are for usb plus the clear clrtc jumper.
I had an old sound card from when they were required and the sound works fine.

It could be that the one on the motherboard went bad.

Just for curiosity, what is the output of the lspci command? It should report the audio chipset, if it can see the onboard sound care.

lspci shows Multi Media Controller Yamaha corp YMF-724F [DS-1 Audia Controller rev3] After I unplugged the front audio connector all the static went away. I can use the lan connection on the motherboard or install a USB bracket with cable connection in a space which doesn't have a mother board connection.I think this way I can use the two motherboard connections for a usb mouse and keyboard and have an opening for a printer on the back. I found video card and got video after removing a bad stick of memory.My new video card was delivered today I plan on installing it. I ordered 3 sticks of memory and a couple of gigabite usb and a video card attachment. I'm going to try a video bracket that has a cable and plugs into the motherboard.If this doesn.t work I will leave the sound card in as it works fine. I use a usb microphone when I use skype and never use the front adapter. If I needed it I can use a sound card with a plug for a front sound plugin.
I have a adapter that goes in a hard drive opening with two 2.0 ans a 3.0 usb plus a cable for front microphone.and sound. I just don't plugin sound. I disconnected the case sound card and microphone as it caused a lot of static. The sound is activated in the bios. It has to be activated for the sound card to work. I had to order a short cable female to female ends so I can check if on board video works. It has odd connections on the mother board for video.
