I'm running Madriva 2006 under the Linux 2.6.12-12mdk kernel release and a problem cropped up I've never had before.
Previously, I had the passwords for my email program (KMail running as part of Kontact) stored in my KDE Wallet. Whenever I opened KMail and told it to fetch my email, the KDE Wallet dialog box would pop up asking for my Wallet password. For some strange reason, KMail now pops up the email password box asking for each individual email account's password instead of opening KDE Wallet.
I've checked my acount settings for KMail and the "Store POP pasword" box is unchecked, like it has been all along, and no other settings have been modified, although I may have installed a Mandriva update before the problem showed itself.
Does anyone have an idea how I can restore my email settings to get KMail to obtain the POP passwords from Wallet instead of asking for them individually?? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated
Have you run kwallet and checked whether the kwallet subsystem is enabled (kwallet -> settings -> configure kwallet -> Enable the KDE wallet subsystem)?
I have interval mail checking enabled in Kontact. Just noted that if I leave Kontact running, while it doesn't pop up the Wallet prompt for password the first time I tell it to fetch email, Wallet will ask for the wallet password when it does the next interval mail fetch.
Thought I'd enter a post here since I stumbled onto the solution to my KDE Walet problem.
Previously, I found that selecting the option "Store POP Password" under Settings-->configure Kmail-->Accounts would store the POP password in a KMail config file. I did that once previously and it warned me that enabling KDE Wallet was a safer alternative. I enabled the Wallet and, later, deselected the "Store POP Password" checkbox.
This worked for a while until some unknown change took place (maybe one of my Mandriva updates) and it stopped opening the wallet whenever I checked my email.
After much fooling around with the settings (and entering passwords manually for about a week) I stumbled onto the solution by enabling KDE Wallet AND Selecting the "Store POP Password" option. With Wallet enabled, Kmail stores the POP passwords in Wallet instead of into the less secure config file.
Hope this helps someone else with the same problem someday.
