Switching default file manager Konqueror to Dolphin 0.8.2
Hi guys,
Still at the moment we are working with KDE 3.5 due to a 3 year effort to make this OS everything that it can be before it's release and KDE 4 was just coming out and still "green".
One of the things that was done was switching Konqueror over to Dolphin as the default file manager. It seemed simple enough. We changed/added Dolphin in the "inode" section of "File Associations" which replaced Konqueror with Dolphin. Well I thought that it was all set and worked fine. Well it's almost there, however there's something that I just noticed that is causing some issues for us and slowing down our release until it's resolved.
From what we are seeing here it appears that the Desktop is still under Konqueror's management.
I say this for 2 reasons.
1: The custom and default Dolphin Service Menus when right clicking and going to "Actions" are not the same on the Desktop as they are in every other Dolphin window. We made some custom service menus for Dolphin to handle video, audio and images. Those options only show up when viewing files in Dolphin itself..not on the Desktop. The only way to have those options when on the Desktop it to make a copy of all the service menu items and place them into the service menus of Konqueror...but that's only a bandage fix for the real issue.
2: If you attempt to "cut" from the contents menu from the Desktop to Dolphin or from Dolphin to the Desktop the file is not removed from it's original location. The file is left behind and actually copied (instead of moved) to the destination location...so now you would have two of the same file. This ONLY happens when cutting file from the Desktop to Dolphin or from Dolphin to the Desktop and not when using Dolphin alone. More proof of this is when you use the split screen feature of Dolphin and and on one side choose to look at the Desktop and on the other a file that you want to move to the Desktop. If you use Dolphin to "cut" this file it works fine...but if you "cut" the file from Dolphin and try and paste it on the actual Desktop...it will leave the original file behind in Dolphin.
My question is...what else can be done to make sure that the entire system is using Dolphin as it's default file manager? Is there one step that I forgot to do to make the Desktop part of Dolphin's domain?
I always thought that the "cut" issue was related to Dolphin..but now I see that the issue only happens when the Desktop is involved.
I understand that KDE 4 uses Dolphin as it's default file manager so it seems possible to get the Desktop in KDE 3.5 to play along with Dolphin.
Any help or input on this issue is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
