KDE won't start :(

I recently updated to -current. After two hours working with someone on freenode, I got X partially running. However, I still can't get KDE to start as user. It works fine as root, but upon doing startx as user, I get three xterm windows.

sounds weird.. What happens if you boot the machine into init-level 3, then login to the command line as root, and type 'telinit 4' ?

Is KDE set as your default session? If not, run xwmconfig and choose KDE as your default desktop, then run "startx". An alternative to running xwmconfig is editing ~/.xinitrc and making sure you add "exec startkde" and comment out any other lines in the file.
