KDE freezes, desktop becomes unusable

Hello

I installed OpenSUSE Leap with KDE Plasma on an ASUS VivoBook. Very soon windows became unresponsive and the only way to exit was to power off the laptop. After booting the system the desktop background was black, missing all shortcuts. The same problem has occurred with several distros on computers of different make. Why does this happen?

OpenSUSE Leap 15.5
Kernel 5.14.21-150500.55.39-default (64-bit)
KDE Plasma 5.27.9
KDE Frameworks 5.103.0
Qt 5.15.8
Graphics Platform X11
Intel TigerLake-LP-GT2 Iris Xe Graphics

You have not provided any information the could help diagnose the problem. I could only guess at this point.

Things to check out. Determine if you have free space on your root partition. As the system runs, programs use the root partition as temp disk space, not enough can cause this problem.

Since you say this has happened on other hardware, with multiple distros, I guessing its an installation problem.

To look at the linux partition(s), run the command lsblk -f and post the results.

Another issue can be ram. The command free will list free space, yes you need some.

Start there, and we'll see if we can help further.

Welcome to LQ.

The command is lsblk -f not lsblk -l. Please try again. The f ( lower case F ) will tell us how much space is % you have used, and will let us know if you lack space.

Looks like you have lots of ram. I'm confused by this line:

Code:
nvme0n1p2 btrfs 7c93b4cb-4915-4fa9-8c17-830d1dddff51 467.5G 1% /boot/grub2/i386-pc
nvme0n1p2 is the root file system. It looks like you have it mounted on /boot/grub2/i386. Is this a 32 bit system or a 64 bit system?

Would you post the file /etc/fstab and put it in code tags please.

There is no shortage of disk space either.

From searching see lots of problems with Iris Xe Graphics, so you may want to see what driver you are using and if you ned to update it or your kernel.

Have you checked the logs? They may provide some hints as to what's going awry.

Thanks for the replies. I've reinstalled the distro with the same settings as previously. I've always done everything in the default graphical interface. I'll wait until the problems manifest and then check logs.
