The Unix/Linux version of Yahoo messenger can be downloaded from here. The "Debian" version should work with Ubuntu.

That's a local path to a file on your machine, no use to anyone without access to your machine. Can you find somewhere on the web to host the image?

gundumfx;

The message is telling you that a library file is needed. Type the exact name of the file into a Google search and you should find it.

(Note: I would be easier for everyone if you would simply post the error message rather than linking to a picture.)

Pidgin is Gaim. They just had to change the name.

Do your microphone and webcam work independently of pidgin?

Pidgin (formerly Gaim), the GNOME desktop instant messaging (IM) application and Kopete, the KDE IM application, each can be set up to work with multiple IM sources, including Yahoo Messenger, AOL's AIM, and Windows Instant Messenger, as well as others.

You might try the RedHat 9 version there. You really should stick to the instant messenger that's specifically designed for Gnome though (which is Pidgin). This is probably already installed, just go to Applications > Internet > Internet Messenger
