I would like to get xine up-'n'-running on my Mandrakelinux 10.1 OS. I expected to find it in 'Applications>Multimedia', but it is neither there, nor anywhere else in my menu listings.
Going the 'CLI' route, I entered 'locate xine' on my command line and got back 215 lines, with listings mostly in /etc, /usr/share, and /usr/lib. All are cryptic (duh!) listings, leaving me with not a clue what to 'pull out of the pile'.
Obviously, a large depository of xine-related files was included in my initial install, but just as obviously, the key element was not generated/spawned/activated/blown-up, or whatever, to give me a useable install.
Xine won't run because from the results you posted, you do not have xine-ui installed. All you have on your system are the base libraries. If you want a GUI, install xine-ui or kaffeine.
Xine-lib is just a library, so you cannot run it. You need a GUI frontend like Xine (xine-ui), Kaffeine or Totem to make use of that library.
thanks, i have got a question? this is:
i installed xine-ui, i can run it, but i am not listening to music on internet.
how do run it?
are you understand the my idea???

Not really sure what the problem could be. From what site are you trying to listen to music?
