installing eclips in linux


i am using ubuntu 9.0
i downloaded eclipse-jee-galileo-linux-gtk.tar.gz from eclips.org.
can anyone tell me how to install this?
now it is in Home/aruna/Donload folder

It's a while since I did it, but I'm pretty sure there's no installation needed. You just unpack that tar file where you want it to go:

cd /targetdirectory
tar -xzf /path/to/eclipse-jee-galileo-linux-gtk.tar.gz
... and then you simply execute the eclipse binary contained within the eclipse directory this will have created. There is a little set-up required when you first run it.

Correct. For what it's worth, you could have installed eclipse directly from ubuntu software repositories (on the downside, the repositories will not have any of the latest releases).
