I am having a problem starting applications in a new installation of KDE

Hi

I just took a base installation of debian and loaded KDE by using the following coommands...

#apt-get install x-window-system-core kde

#apt-get install kdm

I start the GUI by typing 'startx' at the command prompt.

Everything works great except all the games.

Whenever I click on the games, nothing happens. When I do it from the explorer window it gives me an error that says it cannot locate the executable file.

I can quit the GUI, go back to the command prompt and use the apt-get install command to load other games from the list at the debian site, these are then displayed in the games folder on the KDE GUI and these new installations do start and run properly.

I try to uninstall the ones that dont work and reinstall them and they still dont work.

I have tried every application loaded with the base install of KDE and all of them work except for the games.

Does anyone have any idea why this is not working correctly ?

Your help is appreciated...

Are you sure the games are actually installed? Just because you see the shortcut in the menu doesn't necessarily mean the executables are there - they may be in a separate kde-games package, or something like that. Open up the KDE menu editor and find the command for one of these game, type that into an Xterm window, and see what happens.
