I find anywhere I go, I barely have any options, is there some kind of package I have to install or something to get more options?

For example when I go to the settings for the task bar entries, it's a very barren dialog, there's a couple checkboxes, that's it. I want to make it so programs that arn't on that monitor don't show up and I can't find that option or any other options that would typically be available. Any way to get those options back?

Is that really the case? What about Mate? I don't want to go back to KDE, I found it had too many glitchyness, like firefox open/save dialogs being all weird. It's why I reinstalled my OS to begin with.

Just ran into another weird issue, programs that minimize to systray can't be reopened. You get a basic menu but can't get the actual instance of the app back. I had music playing in Banshee, is jut randomly stopped, but I can't get back to the program to see why. I see the music note icon, but that's it. Nothing happens when I click on it except for a basic context menu.

What happens when you try ALT-TAB?

On the larger issue, I prefer MATE to Cinnamon, but, as both of them are Gnome spins, they share a Gnome trait--dumbed down, er, "simplified" preferences. You might take a look at the dconf-editor. I've not used it myself.

Mint 18 Cinnamon has quite a few options.
If you're having trouble finding the System Settings, you can run cinnamon-settings in the terminal to load it up.
As for clicking on banshee, mint 18 cinnamon uses "indicators". It's fairly new and some programs are buggy with it.
You can turn it off in System Settings -> General -> Enable support for indicators (Requires Cinnamon restart) and restarting cinnamon (Ctrl+Alt+Esc)

Nothing, even when it's working, I think alt+tab is strictly for what's in the normal task bar. I ended up having to kill -9 it as even killall was not working. At that point I was able to restart it and it worked. Not sure for how long...


I know where the settings are, I just find they are lacking, so wondering if I'm missing a package. Will that dconf editor add more? For example I want to add a panel on each monitor and have each respective apps show up on each respective task bar. Not have them all on the same one. In KDE there was a check box to only show programs that are on the current monitor, for example. I'm trying to find settings such as those ones.

Cinnamon probably will not have the same method (a checkbox) but you can do this, add a panel to the other monitor and add the "Window List" applet.

After testing this, I needed to restart cinnamon (Ctrl+Alt+Esc) to get it to show only that panels window list.

Ohhh I see, so I need to add the panels/window list first, and then they move over on their own. Makes sense I guess.
