I am using Ubuntu 20.04. My sound settings get set to zero volume occasionally and I do not understand why. the changes seem to happen when I turn off a using program or turn the computer off. I did install KDE desktop and then removed all of it except for Krusader because it is similar and better than explorer.exe.

The longer version is included as a file.
You can check alsamixer to see if it's being muted, and unmute it there. I've had that sort of problem, where unmuting it in alsamixer seemed to have done the trick.
