Gnome Error

An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for
gnome-panel. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly.

Then once clicking on details this is what it says..

"Configuration server couldn't be contacted: CORBA error:
IDLmg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0"

I have no idea what this means... it's not so much a problem as an annoyance. Does anyone have a quick fix for this

Gnome "CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0" Error [Solved]

I got this CORBA error when launching any application from the Gnome desktop. I was unable to run Synaptic and apt-get, and had trouble with just about any app where I needed to use "sudo" to get root privs.

I had just 'cleaned out' the directory /tmp/, and apparently deleted something that wasn't so temporary. The problem started after a reboot after my ill-fated 'cleanup.'

According to the posting at

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-93314.html

I deleted

~/.gconfd/saved_state

The file ~/.gconfd/saved_state.tmp did not exist.

After rebooting, the CORBA error went away.

I'm running Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 LTS.
