File copy retry counts

Hi there,

I got an interesting question regarding how the file manager works in general. I am running Mint Debian with Nemo file manager, I got a corrupted hard drive with windows data files, it randomly inaccessible on windows, and I can see there are 10G of files on the drive, but on Nemo I see 110G of files ! I tried to copy the files to another drive, after hours of copying with random pausing I managed to copy 65G of files, that's 6 six as much windows can see ! I believe windows gave up too early without retry, but what's governing the file copy retry counts on Linux, or individual file manager ?

this is not the file copy retry, but file (or disk/track/sector) read retry. And most probably it is the kernel or the filesystem driver which will do that retry.
