I haven't (yet).

https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pa...esystems&num=1

This site tends to test a number of kernels and filesystems.

Hi Jefro, many thanks for infos
Well...Time will tell!
For the time beeing, ext4 & i will kill journalising process!
Much simpler & ok for day to day job !
And the chosen distros might come out of the box with their gui
Best

I would rather suggest you to use ext2: https://kerneltalks.com/disk-managem...ext3-and-ext4/ (if you don't need journaling)

Hi pan64
ext2 seems to be a bit "out of date"...
yet: "Limits : Individual file size 16GB to 2TB. File system size 2TB to 32TB"
More than enough (for me)
No journaling but why should it be THE fs ?
Cheers
F.

I do not really understand what do you need. ext2 is not outdated, just it has no journaling. ext3 and ext4 are definitely based on ext2 and backward compatible.
For SSD I would use ext4, but it may depend on the usage.
You can look for performance and other comparison on the net - if you wish.

for my new ssd (evo), i'll do as said in #3:
ext4 and I'll get rid of journalising (baloo)
for the time beeing, it seems to be the sweetest move...

Last I looked (a while ago) the ext2 was being considered for removal it was so out of date.

Would you like to explain this statement - it makes no sense to me.
ext4 is still my f/s of choice, including SSD - with journaling.

@syg00

I got rid of journalising even on the previous HDD :
filesystem is constantly writing logs down and informing the system of every single change. This can quickly wear out the write-space...
It is true that it has file system trim support (a critical SSD feature)...
I'll go for ext4 & "kill baloo" with all respect due to R.K (great book & cartoon!)

No... I think you are confusing atime and journalling.
If baloo is causing problems (doesn't it always ?), try mounting with noatime - leave the journal active, much safer.

I would have thought that the Phronix results would have led you to trying it.

Isn't this FSFS filesystem actually being used in some name brand phones?

Thanks for info, i read quite often "Phronix".
For next laptop I'll use live Gparted as boot, starting on good bases!
Maybe...
Nice day
