Question Evolution Email Setup Troubles

Well, I have partially set up my evolution email account on Ubuntu 8.10. I can send emails, but I can not receive them. I am using Comcast email. I assume that I have either put the wrong server name or server type in the receiving mail options, or that there is something that you have to do to the Comcast account that I'm unaware of. If anyone has any suggestions, they will be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

How about encryption? If they are using encryption there might be additional settings to configure in Evolution. I know some use encryption on receiving, but not sending.
Also be aware of Evolutin 2.24.4, it might crash if you try to print (its fixed in 2.24.5).

Your best option is to double check your server addresses etc with Comcast.

As much as I hate Evolution, (3rd behind Outhouse and Thunderbrick) it does a pretty good job of querying the mail server for options during setup.

Did you check your logs from inside Evolution? It should show you where the problem is. Are you just not receiving mail, or are you getting some error message that leads you to believe that you have a problem receiving your mail?

The other thing that happens easily in Evolution is that the default way it sets up your userid is almost always wrong for receiving mail.

For example if your userid is tex89@comcast.net when you enter this in the first panel of the setup wizard, it will use tex89 as your userid. The problem is, most email setups require a full userid whenever you sign on for receiving or sending. So you should double check you have your full tex89@comcast.net every place you are required to specify an email userid.

I've already set up the userid so it is correct. It is showing a little message at the bottom of the Evolution screen that says "Error while fetching mail". I may have the wrong server type or something. I'm going to email comcast and see what they say. Thanks for all your help though.

I figured it out. Comcast had a solution on their help page believe it or not. Thanks again though, and here is the link showing how to set up desktop email if anyone need it. http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/...-sending-email
