Emoticons for Libreoffice Writer

Can anyone tell me how what I need to do to add emoticons to text in Libreoffice? I know how to 'insert' pictures and change them to fit but that is a lot of extra moves for a simple smiley in the text. Any suggestions?
I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04
thanks, Rich

Yeah there is one idea, and I use it all the time, download a package of icons (from the many archives around the net) and unzip it somewhere, insert these, they should be up to scale (32x32pixels mostly)...

If you just want something like in black and white, then the open symbol font should be available and you can use that.
