Dual Displays in RedHat Enterprise 4 with NVIDIA video card

Hello,

This is my first ever post. I have been a RedHat user for a few years, and recently decided to try to get dual displays working on my system. I've done some reading, and know about the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. All the info that I've seen so far seems to be directed at dual video cards. I have one NVIDIA Quadro NVS 285 card with a splitter cable to two VGA connectors. I've tried some tinkering with the config file, and that was unsuccessful, causing X not to start as a result of any changes.

I have dual Samsung 1600x1200 LCDs.

I was wondering if anyone has been able to get this sort of setup working. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

there is a display set up tool in the nvidia display tool
see
( for gnome )
applications / system tools/NVIDIA X server settings
after you install the nvidia .run driver

also why are you using the old rhel 4 ( yes it is still supported but rhel 5.4 is the current) .

Re:

Hi JohnVV,

Thanks for the input. I'll look into that NVIDIA tool.

The machine in question sits on my desk, along with two XP-pro machines, but is also a file server and engineering application server for a workgroup. I've always been uneasy about trying to upgrade it, and then possibly being down for an extended period trying to get a new system configured. We don't have a real admin person, so we kind of feel our way around. My plan has been to get a new machine with the latest RedHat at some point this year, and transition the machines in parallel, so hopefully there's no down time. I'de like to be able to use it for emacs editing since it's sitting on my desk at the moment. I do that, but with only one monitor currently.

Thanks,

Steve
