Is there a reason why your Mom shouldn't just continue using Windows? It sounds like Linux disrupts her PC experience, regardless of the particular distribution used.

Mageia I like so far and will test more. I'd rather not have to maintain an XP environment. It's a huge pig compared to any Linux I've ever operated (and I used and liked that other koolaid for quite a while). Plus I've already dumped my 7 and don't care about 10.
I'll dual boot it for as long as the MS part survives/gets use. Once she gets the feel of peppier OS, she'll like it and use it more. Then MS goes to the curb.
