CentOS 7, network manager can't get network active

Hello,
I'm getting the following error trying to setup a network connection

"Could not activate connection: Connection is not available on device p4p1 at this time"

The system is CentOS 7 using network manager. I liked the old system. As far as I can tell with NM you setup a connection and link the connection to the device. When I run "nmtui" the connection appears to be linked but when I try to activate it I get the above error.
I've tried to google the error but don't seem to be able to find anyone who has encountered this error.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
