I know somebody who is running Ubuntu 9.10 with Xfce, Gnome, and KDE installed. His display manager is gdm. He is unable to log into a KDE session; it tries for about 20 seconds and takes him back to the login screen. He tried creating an new user and got a little further; the desktop got past the splash screen, started to display, and took him back to the login screen. Does anybody have any ideas?
Didn't work. I've tried every trick I know and no joy. There's something seriously wrong with his installation... stupid Ubuntu, of course. Does anybody have any other thoughts?
I'm not gonna mark this as solved cause it isn't... he got tired of fighting with it and just re-installed everything. It works now. too bad; I'd have liked to find out what the problem was.
