broken font (on print)

Ubuntu 6.06 (dapper drake), openoffice & abiword, up to date on patches as of yesterday.
Epson DX4050 (using 3800 driver)

Both wp packages misprint with the "Samanata" and "Purisa" fonts.
They look ok onscreen, but misprint (the m's are clipped just after the centre stroke, some other errors too).
They have some (different) errors on the print preview.

I'm guessing it's the fonts that are broken, since the problem appears on both oo & abiword, and in both preview & on the dx4050.

Anyone know if I'm right?
If so, is there a fix, or can I delete them?
Or am I posting in the wrong place?
Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks
Chris
