Exclamation Automatically change backgrounds in Ubuntu 12.04/Gnome 3.6

I am getting very frustrated with not being able to get my backgrounds (wallpapers) setup to change automatically. So, can Ubuntu 12.04/Gnome 3.6 do this or am I restricted to 3rd party apps? So far, nothing seems to work right, or at best, I'm not properly configuring the app(s) correctly. Help please and thanks.

Ubuntu? not changing wallpapers auto?
That's a kind impossible these days when even the most conservative Xfce4.10 over a Slackware has that trick in simple clicks.

It is either something is wrong with your DE configuration, or that google missed the search. Try to listen to this and this, all about ubuntu background.

Hope that helps.

Good luck.

You should take a look at the command xpmroot. If you have a wallpaper picture.png in your current workingdirectory, simply execute
Code:
xpmroot picture.png
to set this wallpaper. But xpmroot does not support jpg, read the manpage. Take also a look at the xsetroot command.

You can use the commands in a script which automatically sets a new wallpaper after a specified amount of time.
