a Desktop Environment entirely in Python?

how much effort would be involved in implementing a Desktop Environment entirely in Python (now version 3 only) with maybe critical bit/pixel crunching parts in C code called from Python? a first effort should be like one of those small DEs.

right now i use Xfce. i would refer to something as complete enough to use as a DE but not necessarily as big as Xfce although it could grow this big if designed on a good foundation with a clean and flexible API, even if it could not be used in other languages.

Give fluxbox a try/look at. Stays out of your way, easy to configure with text config files. Has menu and key bindings.

Here are a bunch more.
