Question problems with user level dial up

I am trying to set up this computer using the Internet dial-up tool (I think it is kppp).
As root I have no problem dialing and connecting, but as a user the modem dials then kppp stops with an exit status 2.

The PPP-logfile shows Cannot open any of the following logfiles:
/var/log/syslog.ppp
/var/log/syslog
/var/log/messages

I have put the users in the group dialout and given them permission, at least I think so

can anyone help me

Right click those files and choose Properties -> Permissions. Make sure everyone can read them.

Freewheel,

You may want to follow the steps below to dial with non root user.

From a terminal (L > Program > Utilities > Console), type: "chmod u+s /usr/bin/kppp" [Hit Enter] Next, go to L > Programs > Business & Finance > Text Editor do the following: 1) in /etc/ppp/options place a # at the beginning of the line that says 'auth' 2) in /etc/skel/.ppprc and /home//.ppprc place a # at the beginning of the line that says 'noauth'. Now you should be able to dial-out as a non-root user. FYI: if after performing the above steps you can dial out but can not load any web pages check the following: Load KPPP and press "Setup" then go to the "Accounts" tab, select the account you're using and press "Edit". Then go to the "DNS" tab and make sure "Automatic" is selected under the "Configuration:" block, if it's not, select it. This extra step shouldn't be necessary, but we have seen it set itself to "Manual" sometimes, so it's worth noting.

Hope this helps.
