Ok, Im new in Linux and Linspire. How do I actually install programs such as "XMMS"? I tried to install it through "CNR" but then I was transfered to a meny where I had to pay money and stuff (?). Then I went to the official "XMMS" page, downloaded it, but I dont have any clue how to install it, hehe. A little help for a newbie here? And by the way, is there any nice guide which can help me with different things about Linspire?
Did you get a free copy of linspire? I guess that is why you're being asked to pay. For purchased copies, click'n'run was free for awhile, so I heard. See if you have synaptic:
man synaptic
If so, run that (have to su to root to do this) to install programs.
If not, use apt-get (also root) to install synaptic, then use synaptic.
It's not a good idea to run both click'n'run and synaptic/apt-get (they don't play well together, so I 've heard). So if you go this route, commit yourself to never using click'n'run. Synaptic is sweet.
Yes, I got a free copy of Linspire. Iv heard about Synaptic but I actually have no idea of how to install programs and using "sudo", "su", "suto" or whatever you called it, hehe. So what I need is a little bit of help in that area or if you or anyone can refere me to any sort of understandable guide
Read my sig for a graphical guide to how to install software with Synaptic. It's not officially supported in Linspire. Theoretically, you can get around this, but it may break your system. My advice would be either to pay for CNR or to use another distro that has built-in support for Synaptic (Mepis, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Blag, etc.).
Well AFAIK XMMS is included with the default installation of Linspire (is probably called MP3 Player or something like that to make it easier for Windows converts).
Now about Apt and Synaptic, I don't think Synaptic is included by default but APT is (but it's repositories are commented so they won't work). The problem with APT is tha

There is only one of the 2 repositories that are commented out that work. One does not exist anymore. Do you have any repositories that can be added to sources.list in Linspire?
