For mounting usb drives , you can try these steps :

1) cd /mnt
(2) mkdir usbdrive
(3) add the following line to /etc/fstab
/dev/sdc1 /mnt/usbdrive vfat noauto,users,rw 0 0
(4) reboot

After rebooting the computer type
mount /mnt/usbdrive
to mount the usb drive .

You can also add a link to desktop by :
right click on desktop
select Create New -> Device - > Hard disk device .
Click on Device tab and select /dev/sdc1 .
Click on OK.

Right click on the icon to mount / umount the usb drive.

The steps to add a second hard drive is almost similar .

If the hard disk is alredy partitioned , then you can use the command given below to list the details about the partition, the file system etc .
/sbin/fdisk -l

Note the partition which you want to mount . If the hard disk is connected as slave, the device could be /dev/hdbX where X is some number.

Create a directory say win in /mnt where you want to mount the partition.
cd /mnt
mkdir win
Add the following line to /etc/fstab

/dev/hdb1 /mnt/win vfat defaults 0 0

( The above line is for mounting a windows partition .You need to change the entry depending on the partition you wish to mount )

After that type :
mount /mnt/win
to mount the partition at win .
