Hi steve02115, this is Adam. I'm interested in switching back to Linux Mint as my Linux Desktop distro- but before I do, I have a question...
Will it allow me to load in DVD video (&audio) so I can edit and make my own DVDs with relative ease?
I say "relative" for the following reasons:
1. I'm currently using Xubuntu 8.10 for the speed on my Desktop architecture,
which is (IBM Netvista P4 1.6Ghz, w/100 gig partition for Linux, (dual-boot) and 1.5 gig Ram.)
2. I'm somewhat able (I think) to encode DVDs, although it takes forever, maxes out my
CPU (according to Gkrellm) and doesn't seem to really save anything since I don't know
if it's actually working or "forever hung in a crash".
3. I'm not really new to Linux and am very comfortable at the command line
4. I've enabled just about every repository, so getting xubuntu software isn't
really an issue, but I think this OS is just not up to the task.
5. I've used Mint before (Cassandra) so I know that it's a solid distro.
6. OVerall, I just want to develop some PHP web pages and edit some video
from my own DVD collection.
Will Mint 5 (and/or 6) be the way to go? Or should I try Ubuntu Studio instead?
Thanks,
Adam
