Yoda's words of wisdom

Just about everywhere I go to learn something or read something, there is a yoda quote. And I find myself, when replying to alot of threads saying things in "yoda speak".

Does anyone think it's a relationship between geek and Star Wars, or just plain coincidence?

I'll highlight and paste a quote from this perl tutorial I am reading:

Quote:
So you've decided to take the plunge. After learning a CGI hack or two, you're ready to learn CGI scripting for real. Beware: Many have been tempted to walk down this path, but few have returned. It's not that it's especially hard, you just have to be patient and willing to learn. Afraid? No? You will be.... you will be.
See the last line? That's yoda! He's telling Luke he will be afraid! Anyone else read that or am I just noticing things that aren't there?

Anyway, is this happening to you other geeks out there, or just me?

Cool

Put down the StarWars video and put your hands where we can see them.

MasterC is confused now as he has finds himself in a cold sweat lying in bed staring at the ceiling that appears to look like cottage cheese, as he looks around, he realizes that it was only a dream. But is it really.

Only 1 of the individuals telling me to put down the video would follow with: "you must unlearn what you have learned" That's yoda speaking to all winbloze converts to Linux

Linux Questions General Forum. You will never find a more wretched hive of geeks and lq addicts. We must be cautious.

Cheers,

Finegan

p.s. Personally I'm preferential to Adminspotting

Superb! And it was done by someone at an English Uni! Yay!

I think, however, that the whole Yoda Speak thing lends itself far to easily. Not everything lends itself, though. See, if I wanted, I could have (and possibly should have) put 'that is' after superb, above. But it just didn't lend itself. And now rabbiting, I am.

yoda and an English major? lol. what's an English major gonna do with grammatically unsound sentences like:

"How you get so big eating food of this kind?" (The Empire Strikes Three... oops i mean Back!)
or more obscurely,
"So certain are you. Always with you it cannot be done" (The Umpire Strikes Back... oops i mean Empire!)

just kidding fin... lol.

I have a running theory about Star wars. I believe that R2 ran Linux, and that the Death Star ran Windoze. Here is my evidence:

R2 never failed, and could do many different things. He may have only spoke one language, but understood many. He was resourceful and user friendly, until you made him upset, then he become difficult to use. He didnt like being help by that restraining bolt.. he was into being freedom. And he could interface easily with other computer systems with different protocols.

Now the Death Star... in both cases, the piece of crap never saw it had a flaw that could be easily exploited. And its computers could be easily overridden within a few seconds. Maybe if the Emperor would have paid the money to upgrade the software he would have been much safer, but I think even the Empire could not afford MicroCraps licenses

I think Thymox was making reference to the "English" as in location of the guy that came up with that Adminspotting thing. It wasn't a complement to my choice of degree programs... goodness knows.

Steph, the geekdom is strong within you, but beware the over-analysis of Linux operating systems and Lucas space operas, for that is the path to the dork side.

Cheers,

Finegan
