xorgconfig should i

This may sound stupid but every tutorial thing i read says run "xorgconfig" after you install. I dont then i type "xstart" and all works ok. The thing is should i run this command or not and what does it do exactly. I know it sorts out your graphics and stuff like that but if they are working ok now do i need to do it? Or is more for gaming. Either way can someone help as my confusion is sending me mad

if you're getting problems in graphical mode after startx (i.e. not the right resolution, flickering, etc.), then you have to modify /etc/xorg.conf to suit your needs. otherwise, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

if you know it'll run a higher resolution, try it out. you might need a driver for it, but it should be able to at least handle a higher resolution w/o a driver.
