What does slashdotted mean?

I went to view the site www.groklaw.com regarding the SCO lawsuit and I got this message.

"The GrokLaw site has been slashdotted and is cooling off. Please check again in a few minutes or try the "old" site at Radio or the Google cache.
Our apologies for this interruption of service, the Webmaster."

I've heard the word slashdot before, but I was never sure what it meant. What exactly does this mean?

he prolly means a script kiddie has got hold of a new exploit and used ./ to run it (./ runs a command in the current dir where as <command> will run it from the paths in the users environment eg /usr/bin /bin etc)

or he could mean that an article from there was posted to http://slashdot.org/ which generates a ton of traffic...

btw, both groklaw.com and slashdot are great sites, highly recommended

Wouldn't that be dotslashed?

Yeah, slashdot has a massive userbase and regularly demolishes servers with the flood of traffic that comes from being mentioned there, like Genesee says. Great site.

General discussions are more suitable in General, not Linux - General. Moved at this time.
