Well, after 5 months I finally have slackware-current (modified) running like a dream (with the ocasional hickup, 2D driver probs). Though it involved getting an AGP graphics card, eh, at least it didn't cost too much.
I never NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER want to have to compile xorg/mesa/etc again...Unfortunately, I am going to have to tweak with the kernel. For some bloody reason the smp kernel that comes with slackware doesn't load the snd-pcm-oss module. I wonder what the heck I did to the other customized kernels that did load it. I got lucky, I guess...Though, thinking about it, perhaps it would be a good idea to leave it as a module and not have it load. I only play W:ET every once in a great while.
Nvidia GeForce 6200
xorg-server 1.8.1
Mesa 7.8.1

Now I bet I'm going to get bored as hell now that I don't have to fix anything......
Celebrating the arrival of the contractors, bemoaning having to dig up power conduits and go under the house to remove the romex. More celebrating than bemoaning though!
I'm posting from it now; I'm still tweaking things with it, though. I still want to get Compiz working on it, and I still have yet to configure ALSA for audio, but so far things are looking pretty good!
The specs (from lspci/lshw output; I don't remember all the specs from the display card ):
CPU: Intel Core i5 M430 @ 2.27 GHz
RAM: 4 GiB (my Ubuntu machine only has 1.5 GiB )
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 310M w/ 512MiB dedicated VRAM (This I do remember from the specs card )
Heh, I tried posting there before. I was asking how I could get my Google search option back on my Firefox search toolbar (I lost it on my Ubuntu machine ), and the one person who "answered" posted instructions for installing the Google Toolbar for IE!
Trying to decide if my laptop's CPU is a multi-threaded dual-core or a quad-core. The Xfce CPU usage graph shows four little bars, and the history graph appears to average them (when one bar is at 100%, the history graph is roughly ¼ full).
I tried looking up the model on Intel's site, but couldn't find anything.
