Way too close for comfort

I was headed into the gym about 6:30 this morning and someone was coming the wrong way up my lane on a 4 lane divided highway. No lights on on the other car either. I got around him on the shoulder, but not after the back end got a little loose on the shoulder and the right side tires bumped over a stack of debris that hasn't been picked up from the last storm. A guy who got to the gym a few minutes after me reported that the same driver clipped someone a few cars back from me. So I guess it could have been worse. I still feel pretty discombobulated. This was the first time in several years that I was truly fearful of serious injury or death.

An arsehole in a black BMW pulled out of a junction across my path on Wednesday evening. He saw me and clearly thought that he could "beat" a Vespa. I slammed on the brakes and, because I'd just put in new brake pads and it was raining and I was scared, the front wheel flicked out from under me. I landed in front of his car - and he continued to drive. I rolled twice and got out from under the wheels. He refused to get out of his car - but his wife (?) got out and screamed and yelled at me about "the law" - NOBODY (there were loads of cars about) offered to help me pick my scooter up. They didn't hit me so what can I do? I've got a sprained wrist, ripped jeans, a scratched bike AND dented pride.

I was once crossing the Hagley Road in Birmingham - on foot - which has 4 lanes of traffic in each direction. It was coming up to rush hour, so the traffic was heavy but still moving pretty fast. When the crossing lights changed all the traffic started moving, even tho I had only got halfway across - there I was slap bang in the middle of the road, 2 lanes in front of me, 2 behind, and NOT ONE CAR slowed down to let me cross. All I could do is just stand there, with people beeping their horns at me, thinking 'this is it, I'm going to die!' until the lights changed again.

I only gamble with my life... it's free.

lots of people are just too pissed on the road...for some reason they can't get it through their heads that they're not really going to save that much time. But the reverse is also true: there are many drivers that drive so slow that they are actually a safety hazard, since they're going against the 'flow' of traffic (most visible on a highway).

It always amazes me how bad some people can be while driving...

But here's one I found funny. This happened a couple of years ago.

I was walking home and at this large intersection there was a small car (I believe it was an old honda hatchback...battered and tiny) in the left turn lane waiting for the flashing green to turn left..

As the green starts flashing, out of nowhere comes this Mercedes zooming up from behind, turning left from the FAR-RIGHT lane...cutting off the honda, but not quite enough...the cars slammed into each other...hard enough to cause quite a bit of damage but thankfully no injuries.

Well out of the mercedes comes this guy...cellphone, rich looking suit...yelling and screaming about what kind of an ***hole is the honda driver for not letting him go by (never mind that HE was the idiot cutting people off)....and he's being rather insulting and aggressive.

Well out of this little tiny battered honda comes out this HUGE guy...I mean 6'5" AT LEAST and not tiny for it...just looking mean and deadly quiet.

Mr Mercedes took off running with this huge guy in hot pursuit...
I couldn't stop laughing.

Yeah ... really funny vbp6us. I am so glad that you find my accident amusing. I was shocked and scared and in a lot of pain. ...And you think that's a ROFL matter? Cute!

Ouch man. That sucks. Keep in mind they don't call motorcycles/scooters gods gift to organ donation for nothing. Not makin light of your accident but its dangerous out there. That's why I have 3" steel tube bumpers front and rear and nerf bars on my truck. I dare some BMW to hit my 82' Toyota. Armor will save your life. Glad you survived though..
