Vmware XP host SUSE 10.1 guest - installation

I have VMworkstation 5.5 installed on an XP Pro machine.

On trying to instal SUSE 10.1 (5 cd's) I'm not certain what I should expect to see - I certainly don't want to inadvertently instal SUSE over XP! The CD drive is now higher in priority than the main disk.

Can I direct a VM virtual machine to an entity on the first CD - if not, what steps should I take?

My knowledge of LINUX is virtually zilch. The object of using VM is so that I can instal different LINUX distros and then start exploring LINUX.
