Is it just me, or do most people seem to need to test their browsers on Slackware? I never had anything to test when I used to use it.

Seeing if my latest experiment has fixed Firefox/Arch so it actually shows Arch... since Chromium stopped working.

Apparently even Firefox is resistant to attempts to tell it, it's running on Arch...

Distros like Arch and Slackware do not brand or modify their software.

I know they don't, that's why I'm trying to figure out how to do just that, apply something like the changes made by other distros so I can persuade Firefox into telling LQ it's running Arch.
It's not turning out as simple as I thought.

Open a tab in firefox, type about:config in the address bar, go to the line:
Code:
general.useragent.extra.firefox Iceweasel/3.5.9
and add Arch:
Code:
general.useragent.extra.firefox Arch/Iceweasel/3.5.9
Obviously, yours won't say Iceweasel, but....

I personally like to create a new string in about:config called "general.useragent.vendor" and set it to Slackware. In Konqueror it's done in ~/.kde/share/config/kio_httprc on a per site basis. In chrome/chromium it's done via the command line with the --user-agent= switch.

Never thought of looking in about:config. Let's give it a whirl and see...

Aha, got it.
Thanks.

In Konqueror:

Settings -> Configure Konqueror... -> Browser Identification

You can't add text in konqueror that way. Or at least I can't, I can only set a predefined browser id like safari or FF. But the result of changing via "Browser Identification" is a modification to the kio_httprc file which can then be edited.

But I can get the useragent icon to show Arch by checking the "Add operating system version" box.
