Stumped: BIOS not seeing SATA's, can't install linux or windows

My Abit board no longer sees my SATA's maxtor or seagate but will see my IDE data drive and CD rom's. I don't know exactly what could have caused it, but what i did was uninstall the mobo drivers in windows (VIA platform device manager) then format the drives with the setup disk that came with one of the SATA drives because I had to reinstall windows anyway because of some HAL.DLL errors and windows not being able to boot up because it was corrupted or missing.

I am totally stumped at this, the bios usually sees the sata's under the IDE drives at boot but now it's blank and I can't install llinux OR windows because the installations say there are no HD's found.

I don't know if it's the motherboard or the SATA drives.

The Maxtor boot cd sees the SATA's, supposedly formats them, says reboot so windows see it upon install but we go back to the bios not seeing it and niether does windows.
It DOES show them when the BIOS goes through the RAID part, showing the 2 drives are there, just not set up in an array.

Does anyone have any suggestions? MOBO or drives?

Moved: More suitable in General as this is not directly related to Linux.

Upgrading BIOS would be my first thing to try. Probably needs upgrading anyway
