I'm new to Linux, and I just had a little trouble with sound configuration, nothing but configuration problems. But now I have a strange problem. It seems that since I installed Slackware 10 on my partitioned HD, Windows detects no sound device. I use an MSI 865PE Neo2 Motherboard. Comments, PLEASE.

Very strange, but one thing is for sure, it's not Linux fault that you've lost sound in Windows. Go to the mb' manufacture homepage and get the drivers for Windows, most likely that's gonna work...

Try to do a full shutdown nefore rebooting to windows. Warm reboots causes problems sometimes.

If you still have the driver disk for the sound card -
AND if it's plug&play -

go into Device manager and remove the sound card you are using and any
old soundcards you no longer have.
(universal way on all windows is to find device manager in control pannel)

reboot windows.

windows should find the sound card and re-install it fixing your problem.

The only sound card I ever used was the one built in the MoBo. I never had any problems with it though. In fact, This is the first time I've ever looked at audio settings seriously in Windows. Now when I open it there seems to be no detectable audio device of any kind, and all of the drop down menus and everything else are locked. The default sound scheme was blank, so I changed to "Windows default",rebooted, and nothing. Trust me, if anything else was changable in there, I would have scrutinized it to no end.

Major Pain... I checked the drivers and they seem to be missing altogether. I went to the web site and looked for hours (literally) and could not find any audio drivers for my Motherboard. Any suggetions?

here is the reason why it worked in linux

SOYO's sound is listed as the “C-Media PCI (CMI8338/8738)” driver and ABIT's sound is the “Intel ICH (i8xx).” The onboard NICs are both listed under “Ethernet (1000Mbit),” Intel(R) PRO/1000” for the SOYO and “Marvell Yukon Chipset” for ABIT. If you use a kernel prior to 2.4.24, then you'll need the proprietary driver located on the ABIT CD to get ABIT's LAN working."
